Apartheid Free Zone Inner West is a project by Inner West for Palestine, a non-partisan community group organising our neighbourhoods on stolen Gadigal and Wangal lands for freedom, liberation and dignity for all.

What is an
Apartheid Free Zone?

Apartheid Free Zones is a global campaign created by the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement seeking to establish safe, progressive and intersectional spaces free from genocide, apartheid and settler colonialism.Here in the Inner West on unceded Gadigal and Wangal land, we have seen a lack of action and moral consistency from many of our local councillors on the issue of divestment from weapons manufactuers profiteering in Israel's genocide in Gaza. We cannot and will not wait for our political representatives to grow a spine and put people before power and profits.If not now, when? If not us, who?In light of this cowardice we call on our neighbours, friends and families in the Inner West community to stand up. Whether you own a local business, partake in a local sports club, run an art space or simply live in the Inner West, pledge now to boycott and divest from apartheid profiteers. Join others in our community to stand up for human rights, dignity and freedom for all.

No apartheid for anyone, anywhere

Our solidarity with the Palestinian people is rooted in a desire for justice and liberation for all, especially as we live and organise on stolen Aboriginal lands of Gadigal and Wangal people. While this campaign starts with supporting the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement led by Palestinian organisers, this is just a starting point. How does this work?

First, declare your commitment to become an Apartheid Free Zone by signing our pledge either as a household, business or community organisation.
You will then be sent resources to help you follow through on the pledge and make your space Apartheid Free Zone. These include a tiered boycott and divestment list, conversations guide, posters and stickers as well as optional meetings to walk you through the process.
Screen your exposure in financial, cultural and commercial links to the Israeli apartheid regime and human rights violations and then create a plan to phase out these ties.
Declare your space an Apartheid Free Zone and continue to build solidarity and pressure on our public institutions to do the same.

When it comes to Israeli companies, being non-complicit entails:+ Not being implicated in Israel’s military occupation, apartheid, or settler colonialism; and+ Publicly recognizing Palestinian rights under international law, primarily the right of refugees to return in accordance with UN resolution 194.
